TSP (The Somi Pint) was one of the key projects I worked on during my time at Somisomi, a dessert franchise that originated in Los Angeles, California. Known for its diverse soft-serve flavors and customizable toppings, Somisomi has expanded to over 35 locations across the West Coast of North America.




Project Overview

The primary objective of this project was to conceptualize an idea that could digitally transform the franchise business, creating a seamless online-to-offline experience through innovative packaging and service solutions.



How did I approach it?

- Packaging Design: Unlike traditional pint-sized ice cream, this product needed to offer a customizable experience, allowing consumers to select flavors and add toppings. I proposed a solution where a minimal default design on the cup could be customized with stickers. The stickers were designed with distinct colors and shapes to indicate different flavors and toppings, making the selection process intuitive.

Additionally, ingredient labeling was a crucial factor, requiring a flexible label system that could accommodate various product variations. The challenge was to integrate all these features while maintaining a cohesive and visually appealing design that aligned with Somisomi’s brand identity.

- Production & Prototyping: To ensure feasibility, I directly communicated with manufacturers to oversee the prototyping process, testing different materials and evaluating performance. Another key consideration was developing packaging materials that would keep the product intact and prevent melting during delivery. Balancing functionality, sustainability, and brand aesthetics was essential in bringing this concept to life.

This project reinforced the importance of bridging branding with functionality, ensuring that design solutions are not only visually engaging but also practical and adaptable to real-world business operations. By integrating customization, user experience, and production feasibility, this project showcased how packaging design can play a pivotal role in expanding a franchise's digital and delivery capabilities.
